in March 1957 Ghana becomes independent with Kwame Nkrumah as their prime minister. in 1966 Prime minister Kwame Nkrumah is overthrown by a military revolt. The military revolt that overthrew the prime minister makes Ghana a one party state. In 1979 Jerry John Rawlings becomes president of Ghana.
